At My New Pup, we have decided to incorporate a policy regarding visiting that many of our fellow reputable breeders have implemented for the health and safety of our family and our pets.
We are a closed to the public kennel.
We are however randomly inspected.
Below are some of the reasons our Kennel is closed to Public visitations.
Health
Like a new baby, the opportunity for young pups to pick up infectious diseases is increased with all new contacts. Their immune systems are building, so at this time, the moms and pups live separate from all outside traffic. Most illnesses and diseases are innocently carried on people’s shoes and clothing.
Entire litters can be wiped out within 48 hours by the puppy killer Parvo Virus.
This disease could be picked up unknowingly by people in a school yard, a park, or on a sidewalk, and this is only one disease. We cannot risk exposing our dogs and your puppy to diseases that could destroy them.
Your puppy is not the only puppy. By protecting all of our puppies from stress and disease that could be brought on by high traffic, we are protecting your puppy.
Just think if someone who just wanted to see his or her pup happened to bring in an illness that would cause us to lose a litter and you to lose your future puppy as well.
Parvo is just one of many deadly diseases that can be unknowingly brought in by visitors.
Several years ago someone unknowingly brought Parvo to our property. At the time we had a litter of pups that contracted Parvo along with their mother. We lost 8 puppies and almost lost their mother within 4 days! This litter was under the close care of a veterinarian and 24 hour care by us!
It was one of the most horrible things we have went through! We spent thousands of dollars on Veterinary care and Medicines to try and save the puppies. And emotionally it was a nightmare!
We almost quit breeding but after talking to our Veterinarians we were encouraged to continue but to rethink our open door policy and become a closed kennel.
Safety
After more than 15 years of raising dogs I have become friends with several breeders and heard the horror stories of home burglaries, property damage, multiple puppy thefts and kidnappings/held for ransom
(I know the last one sounds dramatic but it is true!)
All from having a kennel open to the public.
I have had my own personal experience in which I had to contact law enforcement to report an individual (along with their friends and family) for harassment, stalking and threats .
Luckily after being contacted by Police and told there was enough evidence for criminal charges this individual did stop.
Unfortunately all this plus the obvious health risks to our dogs and puppies we know that it is in the best interest of our dogs and our family to be a closed kennel.
Legal
I am a licensed and permitted business.
According to my permit and recent land use conditions (as of 2017)
I am not allowed to have customers to my neighborhood or home.
This was a hard decision and not one we made lightly.
All puppy meet and greets and deliveries are done in public.
Generally at a local Two Harbors business where we know the owners and have permission to meet families on their property. We chose this particular place as there is plenty of space with grass areas for the puppies to run and play. Also convenient facilities for those families who may have had a long drive.
What you can do in the mean time:
At My New Pup we are very dedicated to keeping good communication with all of our Doodle families during puppy selection and for years beyond. When you are placing a deposit on a new puppy we will begin an open communication with each family. That will include many high quality photos and detailed updates. I encourage every family to contact me at Anytime if you have a question, concern or just want to talk doodles. We update pictures frequently as every puppy grows.
You can also check out our "Dog House" page to see how our puppies live and grow while here!
